I was recently invited to New York City for a Food Allergy Blogger summit hosted by Mylan Specialty, makers of the EpiPen.

This was the 2nd #MylanSummit, the first being dubbed #EpiPenSummit on Twitter. It was a two-day whirlwind of education, information, laughs and tears.

I was fortunate enough to sit next to speaker Dr. Ruchi Gupta (author of “The Food Allergy Experience”) at a fabulous dinner prepared by Executive Chef Kelvin Fernandez at The Strand Hotel. We talked kids, food allergies, spouses and more. She is a well spoken woman, doctor and mother; but is also so very down to earth. What a breath of fresh air compared to some physicians.

I also reconnected with so many great food allergy bloggers. Not only are they writing, sharing and blogging; many of them are published authors, makers of allergy safe foods, advocates and so much more. They are the woman who are raising awareness, educating others and doing so many great things for our food allergy community.

A big surprise, from the last summit, was the representation from several non-profit allergy organizations. Lynda Mitchell of Kids With Food Allergies Foundation, Tonya Winders of Allergy and Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics, Liana Burns of Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and George Dahlman of Food Allergy Research and Education were also in attendance. It was AMAZING to see the four of them under one roof working together to educate and share information.

I feel so fortunate to be able to do what I love to do and even more so to have a group of amazing woman in our food allergy community who I now call friends.

I’d like to thank Mylan Specialty L.P., Chandler Chicco Agency and everyone else who made this experience possible.
