Lunch Box Reviews

When a company announces a recall, market withdrawal, or safety alert, we post the company's announcement as a public service. We do not endorse either the product or the company.

Following is a review and round up of our favorite lunch boxes and containers for school.

Be sure to bookmark this post. We’ll update it annually and as new products become available.

Critter Lunch Box by LL Bean
Capacity 350 cu. in
Weight 7 oz.
Dimensions 7″H x 9¼”W x 4¼”D.

We’ve had 2 LL Bean Critter Lunch Boxes that we have used daily for the last two years and both are as good as new. They’ve been put in the washing machine on a regular basis and neither has torn or cracked.

These lunch boxes have a water- and spill-resistant fabric, an exterior and inner lining that is easy to wipe clean and they are tested as safe for lead, phthalates and PVCs.

One of the great things about LL Bean is that they accept returns for the lifetime of the product. That’s right – if you are unsatisfied with your product for any reason, you can return it for an exchange or refund.

(We also have and love the LL Bean Original Bookpacks.)

Sandwich Bags – $8.95 – (6.5 x 6.5 inches with fold over flap and snug hook & loop closure)

We love the idea and just put an order in for Lucnhskins sandwich and snack bags.

These bags replace your typical plastic resealable bags and are food safe, dishwasher safe, lead-free, bpa-free and phthalate-free and made of lightweight quick drying cotton fabric. Think of all the money and landfill waste you will save!

Lunchskins come in a variety of patterns and a sub bag is available as well.

Funtainer Food Jar

We’ve been using a variety of Funtainers (by Thermos) for years. They are a great alternative to plastic containers and water bottles.

They are reusable, BPA free and made of stainless steel.

The thermos has a TherMax double wall vacuum insulation for maximum cold temperature retention – keeping beverages cool for up to 12 hours.

The food jar keeps food warm for up to 5 hours and cool for up to 7. Perfect for warm mac and cheese or cold macaroni salad.

We’ve also found them to be relatively leak free and they come in a variety of colors and character choices.
